WIC tours ABC December 1, 2007

abc3.jpgOn Wednesday night, 14 fortunate WIC members toured Building 147 of ABC Studios. Amidst haunting whispers of finals on campus, the trip was certainly a nice escape. Thanks to the kind, quirky and always eloquent, Matt Lopez (a former WIC speaker, webcast editor, and assistant producer of the network’s 20/20 and Primetime), attendees even got to watch the evening’s live broadcast of, “World News with Charles Gibson.”

Like a prefectly choreographed dance, the group watched as correspondents, senior producers, floor directors, teleprompter controllers and Mr. Gibson himself deliver ABC’s celebrated newscast. How else to better grasp the inner workings of television production then to ask questions just as everything was unfolding? For the record, anchors do not sit in their pajama bottoms and slippers. Pants are definitely necessary and anchors are indeed suited from head to toe.

abc21.jpgTopping off the night’s fun and enlightening excursion, members were inspired by Fernando Quigua, a production assistant, who told of his intern-turned-full-time-employee success story, one silver-lined with a Woody Allen message WIC could not agree with more: “Eighty percent of success in life is showing up.” And on this note, WIC hopes to see everyone next Thursday, December 6th at this semester’s final networking event, our Dream & Dine Dinner Commemoration. Join us in Kimmel, Room 912 from 7:45-9:30PM!
