Producers in the advertising world are the high-powered, over-worked individuals who serve as the mediators between the client and the team. It’s their responsibility to keep track of assets, budgeting, timing and everyone’s happiness.
Here’s what the designated leaders of the L’Oréal Paris team would like to share with WIC:
Karen Monahan, Executive Producer
L’Oreal is an extremely high pressure and demanding account to be on. What makes this work satisfying and and fulfilling for me is both the interesting work that we create and the amazing team at R/GA that I am lucky to collaborate with. I am continually amazed by the quality and caliber of what we produce, especially under the tight deadlines we meet. The group is very encouraging and supportive of each other which is very rewarding. Although the entire team is fantastic, L’Oreal is unique at R/GA in that it is dominated by women, all of whom are smart, talented and inspiring, and I enjoy that aspect tremendously.”

“When you’re in your 20s you should make sure to take long breaks between jobs and school, travel the world, experiment. If you don’t know, how will you find out what you really want? Making money is overrated. And don’t be afraid, things happen by themselves if you’re just moving forward. Or as Goethe says: ‘Whatever you think you can do or believe you can do, begin it. Action has magic, grace and power in it.’”
“For me working at R/GA a great chance to work for an interactive agency, in New York, for a French client, and to run into so many people of different cultures. On our L’Oreal team, we have people from Russia, Japan, France, Germany, the Dominican Republic, Argentina…We really have a great team, and I’ve worked in many teams before working with this one, and have rarely seen such an fantastic mix of people.”

“What I do: I make sure that people get their shit done on time and make sure no one is pissed off at either myself or the client, while making awesome websites!
What I like about my job: making sure people get their shit done on time and seeing the great work that comes out of the team. It helps to like the client as well : )
What I’ve learned: That I will only learn the tools I need to excel in my position if I actively pursue them myself. No one has the time to teach someone something that can only be learned by doing. Also, having the right person to help you understand what you need to learn. Communicating in the same language with everyone and making sure you are clear. Yep. That’s pretty much it.
Catherine Bunn, Senior Producer
“The important thing to remember is that more than likely the job that you accept tomorrow won’t be the job that you are in 5 years from now, so get in the door and get working. Keep your eyes open to the other types of positions with the company and see what looks interesting. Companies today really look to promote from within, so if you see something you like, talk to your manager or Human Resources about it. One of the things that people seem to forget is that nobody is looking out for your future but you. If you want to a promotion, prove your worth and then ask for it! You are responsible for your own success.
The women that I look up most are those they carry and present themselves in an admirable way. They are the women who don’t get sucked into the office politics or gossip, nor do they compromise their beliefs or morals to get to the top. They carry themselves in a way that demands respect. They walk in a different way, with a purpose. They are not hesitant to share their ideas and they share them with confidence. It is the women who work hard, but play hard and enjoy the most that life has to offer. Those are the women I aspire to be.”
