Shopping and social media effectively combine on Plurchase. Love to shop online, but wish you can take all of your friends with you to get their opinion? Well Plurchase is your answer. While shopping on Zappos, you can ask your friends if they think you’ll trip on that four-inch heel or if you’ll really look like your grandmother with that loafer on. When you go to the Pluchase site, it will direct you to Zappos and provide you a link that you can share with your friends. Once your friends click on that link, they will be able to log on and see that boot, heel, flat, or sneaker that you are trying to decide which credit card to put it on. You’ve read the book. You’ve seen the trailers. You’ve heard the entirely tailored soundtrack. And now you can… wear the clothes?

To help tide fans over until the debut October 16, Opening Ceremony has just released a limited-edition line inspired by the beloved children’s book and upcoming film Where the Wild Things Are. The line—designed in collaboration with the film’s director, Spike Jonze—debuted in Opening Ceremony stores and online this past Monday, September 28.

I admit I was entirely skeptical when I first heard about this idea, as adorably drawn monsters do not exactly scream “fashion” to me. But I was very, very wrong. Against all odds, the line is edgy, unique, and even (for the most part) wearable. With pieces ranging from vests and jackets for women to coats for men and even a unisex version of Max’s iconic animal playsuit, there is definitely something for anyone looking to make their wardrobe a bit “wilder”.

So whether you are looking for a great, trendy piece to add to your daily wardrobe or even to find a Halloween costume early (as I’m assuming most of us wouldn’t wear that playsuit on a daily basis), Opening Ceremony is definitely the place to go to satisfy your cravings for fashion and fun.

Some may say leather is my middle name. My father once commented that the only thing I need is a leather bag to go over my head and my look would be complete. I romp around Washington Square park in my leather motorcycle jacket, I hit the town in strapless leather dresses and I walk the stairs to the tents of Bryant Park Fashion week in Jeffrey Campbell’s Opening Ceremony inspired leather cut-out wedges.

With the strange not-quite-summer but definitely not fall weather, I’ve had a dilemma getting dressed in the morning. I’m not ready to put away the Kain tanktops or breezy summer dresses but I can’t wait to start working some of this fall’s trends. So, I came up with an alternative: I would pair my newly purchased over-the-knee boots (Wanted’s Babel Black $99- A steal when compared with similar styles) with all the summer clothes that I’m not quite ready to part with.

Okay, so I “die’ over Taylor’s Stella McCartney thigh-highs that she pairs with everything on the Rachel Zoe Report but let’s be honest, an unpaid intern can’t really afford a pair of $1500 boots so instead I did what I do best: bargain hunted.

On Monday September 21, Women in Communication co-hosted the Deloitte Women in Consulting Panel with Undergraduate Stern Women in Business and Phi Chi Theta. We had a wonderful turn-out and learned a lot about the world of consulting!

Deloitte Consulting is broken up into 3 practices: Strategy & Operations, Technology, and Human Capital. The Strategy & Operations practice solves the companies core strategical business problems. The technology practice deals with companies functional and technical technology problems relating to it’s company processes. The Human Capital practice deal with the people issues within and outside a company.

One big takeaway from the panel was Deloitte’s investment into it’s employees. Through WIN, it’s Women Initiative, Deloitte strives to provide women with every opportunity to advance through its company, this can be done with programs like “dialing down” or taking time off for children or family.

Like to travel? Consulting at Deloitte will take you all over the nation and world. There are many opportunities to advance by taking assignments outside of New York, but if you’re wary of travel, consulting might not be the career for you.

Deloitte consulting takes students from a variety of backgrounds, you don’t have to be in the business school to apply!

PRSA Young Professionals Present Insider’s Guide to PR Recruitment How the gatekeepers think

Last month the company that I currently intern at  (Burson-Marsteller) loaned its San Franciso office for an event for the PRSA Young Professionals in the Bay Area. I was lucky enough to be able to attend after work. At the event were three recruiters from Weber Shandwick, Korn/Ferry, and CCI Staffing. While at the event, they answered the “dos’ and “don’ts” in the application process, especially pertaining to the PR industry.

COVER LETTERS

• Consensus: not that important
• Should be a quick synopsis of your resume
• How to email it. Paste your cover letter into the body of the email while you attach your resume
• Tells recruiters if the candidate can get to the point (writing skills)
• Talk about you! Show the recruiter what you want in life and how this internship will help you
• Most recruiters consider the cover letter secondary, they will read cover letters of good resumes, but expects all candidates to have a cover letter

RESUME

• Should be: chronological, perfect formatting, concise in job description, and absolutely no SPELLING ERRORS
• Anyone with 0-5 years experience should only have a 1 page resume
• Should match job description and cover letter
• Use specific words from job description (wrote press release, handled edcal, pitched to media)
• Don’t be afraid to NAME DROP! If you worked on a major client like Intel, say that!
• Quantify your work, how many press released did you write?

INTERVIEW

• Don’t wear perfume/cologne. Why? What happens if your recruiter is allergic to your smell?
• Good skill sets: team work, intellectually curious, open minded, can talk about news/market, communicator high energy, good social skills

NYU students, Daniel McCoy and Erica Swallow, have created a line of promotional videos for Pentel Recycology called Spin the Pen, as part of a marketing competition hosted by Alloy Marketing and Pentel.  The videos feature expert pen spinners, Xero and JC, spinning and having fun with Pentel’s line of Recycology products.

Spin the Pen demonstrates a new approach to interacting with Pentel’s online audience through the creation of www.spinthepen.info, a website dedicated to the Spin the Pen promotion.  The website hosts the entire line of promotional videos and pen spinning tutorials.  Links to Spin the Pen online communities on social networking sites such as Facebook and YouTube are also available for visitors to join and spread the word. In such a little time, the videos have already received responses from pen spinners across the world, including spinners from France, Japan, Korea, Brazil, China and the United States.

In Professor Jacob Jacoby’s Advertising Management class, textbooks are hard to find. Hired by the FBI through Edventure Partners, an organization that assigns students to a company or organization in order to create a “real world” marketing experience, Jacoby’s class dove headfirst into the world of advertising. Divided into various departments, including Account Management, Marketing Research, Media & PR, Creative, Production and Budget, over the past three months the class has successfully executed a multifaced campaign targeted at NYU undergraduates.

The FBI, popularly misrepresented with the solo “special agent jacket” image, wanted to educate NYU students about the OTHER professional staff opportu

nities within the FBI. They figured there was no better way than recruiting NYU students to create the messages behind their advertising campaign. Jacoby’s class created a series of original advertisements in order to reposition the FBI in the minds of students as a feasible career choice and to build awareness about the FBI’s professional staff positions, which include options such as intelligence analysts, linguists, lab technicians and surveillance a

nalysts.

Over the past two months, posters, flyers, online placements and one major on-campus event helped to educate NYU students about the “other side” of the FBI. On November 19, the class hosted an on campus event where FBI professional staff employees spoke about their experiences and the benefits of working with the FBI. Many interested students with a wide range of majors attended the event. After the event, one student said, “I had no idea there was this other side of the FBI, and since I am a biology major, I am thrilled to know that working with the FBI is an option!”
